Reflexology - my passion

Until about 2004 I had never tried any complementary therapy myself. But through our local branch of the MS Society I started having reflexology & massage treatments. Whilst these felt great at the time, I was then having to do an hour’s drive to work in a busy office in Edinburgh, the benefit of my treatment felt wasted. But I knew from speaking to other fellow multiple sclerosis suffers that they benefited greatly from reduced pain & improvements in other symptoms following reflexology treatments. This prompted me to retrain as a reflexologist. (I had previously worked in tax & accountancy - so massive career change). I now treat some MS sufferers in my area as well as other private clients with other conditions.

It really is amazing how different parts of the body are reflected on the hands & feet. So by working on the hands or feet you are giving a holistic treatment to help the body to heal itself. I find it fascinating. And when someone feels a sore bit on their foot which corresponds to the pain in their hip (for example) I can then work more on that specific area to help relieve that pain so that they can move more easily. It is very satisfying to know that I am helping them.

For some people there can be a build-up of toxins in certain parts of the body and reflexology can for some people help to clear these blockages. Before I started having complementary therapies done myself I did not understand how it works. And to be honest it took me a while to get my head around it all. I love how non-invasive therapies like reflexology & Indian head massage are so relaxing and can work wonders for many problems. While a therapy works for one person it may not work for everyone. So for this reason, I think it is important to try different therapies to see what works for you.
